Disc Golf in the Archipelago Paradise

Train your 'throwing arm' and book your next exciting trip to Åland. With soon 16 completed disc golf courses around the island, the possibilities are many, and you can enjoy the nature while having a great game with friends.

Åland is making a major investment in disc golf and aims to open a total of 16 disc golf courses around the island, which will make the course density in the archipelago the highest in Finland and in the world! Most of the courses are already completed, and the rest will be finished in the near future. Disc golf is a perfect activity for avid sports enthusiasts, groups of friends looking for something fun to do over the weekend, families with children, or even a one-on-one outing. The project to build courses in Åland has been ongoing for many years, and the first course was built on the archipelago island of Lappo in Brändö municipality, a perfect course to play if you want to venture further out into the archipelago. In Mariehamn, just a stone’s throw from the Western Harbor, is Badhusparken with its 9-hole course. If you drive north, you’ll reach Getaberget with its beautiful cliffs and views of the sea. Discover the different courses at visitaland.com (https://www2.visitaland.com/sv/se-och-gora?filter=c%3D39577).

How to Play

Disc golf is played over 9 or 18 holes, and the goal is to get the disc, also known as a frisbee, into a basket, which can be located at varying distances from the tee. Just like traditional golf, the aim is to get the disc in the basket with as few throws as possible. Playing on the Åland disc golf courses is free. All you need are your own discs, which can be purchased in most well-stocked sports and toy stores, as well as some grocery stores around Åland. As a beginner, you can easily manage with a simple disc, but after playing a few rounds, you might want to try different types of discs depending on the situation, such as a lighter disc for longer throws and perhaps a heavier disc for putting, which, just like in golf, is called a "putter."

Want to try disc golf without buying your own disc?

Would you like to try disc golf during your holiday? If so, you can borrow a disc from Visit Åland’s tourist information at Torggatan 6 in Mariehamn. See the opening hours here (https://www.visitaland.com/om/).
